LIRA CITY -The election petition challenging the victory of Oyam South MP-elect, Hon. Patrick Ogwang Obura, has been concluded at Lira High Court.

The case was filed by his rival, Queen Dorothy Amolo, who wants court to nullify Obura's election over alleged irregularities on the ballot paper.

Amolo told court she was nominated as Queen Dorothy Amolo, but the Electoral Commission printed Queen Dorothy Alweny on the ballot, a name she says belongs to a different person. She also complained of a blurred photograph.

The petition is against the Electoral Commission, Returning Officer for Oyam District Joseph Omona, and Hon. Ogwang Obura.

Court records show Obura won the January 15, 2026 election with 29,353 votes out of 49,137 valid votes from 266 polling stations, while Amolo and other contestants, including an independent, got 3,516 votes.

Presiding Judge Justice Fatuma Nanziri closed the hearing after listening to both sides. Final judgment will be delivered on November 5, 2026.

Outside court, Obura said he remains confident the people’s will shall prevail and called the petition a costly waste of time, urging for unity and service delivery.

Amolo on her part insists the anomaly on the ballot denied her a fair contest and hopes court will overturn the result.
