LIRA DISTRICT - Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness, and Refugees, and Member of Parliament for Erute South, Sam Engola has donated 456 school uniforms to pupils at Olilo Primary School in Itek Primary School.

‎On July 18, 2026, Hon. Engola while speaking at his thanksgiving prayers hosted at Olilo primary school pledged to provide uniforms for all pupils at Olilo Primary School to boost attendance and curb dropout rates. He also promised to rehabilitate a two-classroom block at the school.

‎

‎On Friday evening, Engola made an impromptu visit to the school to hand over the uniforms, sparking jubilation among parents and pupils.

‎

‎The school headteacher, Moses Ekwar, praised Engola for fulfilling his promise to support the learners and teaching staff.

‎

‎Lawrence Awany, the Chairperson of the School Management Committee, noted that Erute South constituency had struggled with weak leadership over the past years, but the community is now reaping the benefits of electing Sam Engola as their member of parliament.

‎

‎Rev. Deacon Isaac Ogwal, the Curate of Tetyang Parish, led prayers for God's blessings and good health upon the Minister Engola, commending his impact within a short time in office.

‎

‎Representing the pupils, the school head girl Beatrice Adongo and head boy Ongom Job Yafesi expressed their gratitude to Sam Engola for supporting their parents. They also appealed to Engola for additional support, including a clean water source, improved sanitary facilities for girls, boys' education and sanitary pads for older female pupils.

Walter Ongenyo, the political assistant to Sam Engola revealed that the classroom rehabilitation at Olilo cost UGX 54.8 million. He added that similar renovation works are currently underway at Gomi, Olilo, Opem, and Abutoadi primary schools.

‎

‎In his remarks, Sam Engola reiterated his commitment to keeping children in school by eliminating absenteeism and dropouts in primary schools. He pledged to install a solar lighting system to facilitate learning and provide examination testing papers to help teachers prepare pupils for national examinations.

‎

‎"I want to make Olilo Primary School one of the model schools in Erute South in a bid to improve education performance in the district," Engola stated.

‎

‎He further promised to establish a vocational school where dropouts can acquire computer and practical skills for holistic learning.

‎

‎To ensure sustained academic success, Engola added that he will take teachers from Olilo to Kampala for a benchmarking and learning tour, allowing them to gain insight from top-performing counterparts on how to excel in national examinations.
